While the technological evolution and the coronavirus pandemic drove the growth of the postal and e-commerce business, Bpostgroup and the city of Mechelen opened the first urban zero carbon emission parcel and letter delivery zone. A sustainable initiative that boosts customer satisfaction, air quality and innovation.

This goal matches the UN’s Climate Action SDG

Cleaner, quieter deliveries in Belgian cities

Ecozone is Bpost’s approach to lower-emission logistics in Belgian cities. It brings together 3 elements:

a dense network of Pick-up points and Bbox lockers in city centres;
delivery by bike and other soft-mobility solutions, wherever possible;
electric vehicles for the remaining deliveries.

Together, these measures help reduce emissions, traffic and noise in busy urban areas. They also make it easier for residents to pick up or send parcels close to home, often on foot or by bike.

Bpost launched its first Ecozone in Mechelen in 2020. Today, 25 Ecozones are operational within Belgium.
