DescriptionThis public art project for a mixed-use development in Richmond, BC, uses interactive lighting to animate the public spaces and sidewalk area around the proposed building. Bnode designed light modules that use an acrylic ‘wand’ together with RGB LED light fixtures and a combination of sensors to capture movement and sound from adjacent pedestrian and vehicular traffic, which in turn influences the colour and intensity of the light output by the module. Each module is also influenced by and reflects the behaviour of its adjacent, neighbour modules. Over time, or for particular occasions, the programming of the light environment’s behaviour can be adjusted or changed to capture further aspects of the site’s existence.
